Foundation Flash 8 Video

Creator: Tom Green, Jordan L. Chilcott | 2006-06-19

In fact, you really can't play any FLV file in a web page unless it is played through a Flash SWF. Flash Professional 8 makes the addition of video to a Flash movie even easier and more intuitive than in the past.

Publisher: Friends of Ed

About this book
In this book you'll learn: The basics of video editing using Movie Maker 2, iMovie, and more How to import your video into Flash How to work with Flash Video components Several of the new features of Flash 8, including alpha channels, filters, and blends How to master several amazing video effects, such as green screen superimposing, video walls, getting your users into the thick of the action with webcams, and much more! Do you want to master Flash video work, and work your way toward creating awesome, mind-blowing, interactive web applications? Well, don't go any furtherthis full color book is all you need to step into the future. When Flash Professional 8 was released, it seemed as if we'd embarked on a web video revolution almost overnight. Up until then, web video was a morass of competing players, technologies, standards, codecs, and playback quality. The inclusion of the On2 VP6 codec, the FLV Playback component, alpha channel video, and the Flash 8 Video Encoder has ended the infancy of web video, creating an instant benchmark with no stops in between. And this book is the ultimate guide to Flash 8 videoit offers practical advice, technical guidance, and a full series of creative projects ranging from the dead simple to the complex in a manner that talks to you as an equal and makes only one assumption: basic familiarity with the Flash interface. We start with the basicshow to edit video in some of the most popular packages available (such as iMovie and Movie Maker 2) and create a Flash video file and import it into Flash. Next, we move on to the good stuffcreating a custom video player; creating an alpha channel video and using it in some spectacular projects; turning your creativity loose by applying filters and blend effects to video using the Flash interface and ActionScript; creating video walls, menus, and stunning masking effects; and exploring how Adobe After Effects 7 and Flash Professional 8 are poised to become a motion graphics powerhouse. Best of all, you will discover something the authors had discovered by the time they started writing this book...this stuff is fun! Summary of Contents: Creating FLVs using the Video Wizard and the Flash 8 FLV Encoder The Basics of Video Creation Alternate FLV Creation tools: Sorenson Squeeze 4 and Flix Pro 5 Creating Flash Video using the FLV Components Creating a "Talking head" video using Alpha Channels Adding Filters and Blend Effects to Flash Video Masking Video Creating a Video Wall Choosing and Playing Multiple Videos Using the Camera Object to Involve the Audience Actionscript and Flash Video Video Delivery to Cell Phones

Flash 8, Projects for Learning Animation and INteractivity

About this book
Macromedia Flash is fast becoming the Web's most widely used platform for creating rich media with animation and motion graphics, but mastering Flash isn't easy. Most entry-level books teach through simple examples that concentrate on either animation or scripting, but rarely both together. To get the most from Flash 8, you not only need to be proficient in programming/interface design, you need the creativity for story telling and the artistic insights to design fluid animation. Flash 8: Projects for Learning Animation and Interactivityteaches Flash design rather than simply Flash itself. With a standalone series of walkthroughs and tutorials for Flash beginners coming from a graphics field, this book teaches Flash in the context of real-world projects. Rather than learn a Flash tool for the sake of it, you learn which areas of Flash are important, and which are less used, simply by seeing how typical content is actually created. And rather than a text-heavy approach, this graphically rich book leads you through hands-on examples by illustration. Each project in the book starts with goals and broad sketches before moving to design and scripting. This helps you understand design intent-the why of the process-rather than just learning the interfaces and the how of it all. Along the way, you'll create Flash content that includes traditional animation techniques (as seen in full-length animated features), and ActionScript-based interactive animation, such as custom web site interface designs. You also learn how to combine both traditional animation techniques and ActionScript to create feature-rich Flash assets from the ground up. Co-authored by educational developers with years of experience creating compelling content, interfaces, and applications, Flash 8: Projects for Learning Animation and Interactivityoffers a content-driven approach that is also inspiration-driven. You learn because you're accomplishing something tangible, not because you think you need to know how a tool works. If you want to understand how various features of Flash come together to create a final end design, this book provides you with both the insight and the know-how.

I don't normally write reviews, although I read a lot of them and find them useful. So I'm writing this just because i read the bad reviews for this product and almost bought the more expensive ones; but decided on this one to save some money. My worry was that to save a few bucks I was risking breaking a tape or a VCR per the other review's comments.I am pretty sure the reason they had problems is they didn't use it properly. The instructions are pretty bad, and if you don't use it right it will break a tape and/or mess up your VCR. So here is the way to use it;the instructions just say open the cover, put in the tape, and close the cover; but its a lot more than that.1. open the cover, and you'll see two posts sticking up that are spring loaded. It is very important you don't do what I did, which was figure those go in front of the tape, so I pushed them open and dropped the tape so the posts were on the outside of the tape. Check your tape before ordering!

0 5/5 MaryL. - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) If you are going to order this adapter, BE SURE you DO NOT have an 8mm cassette because this does NOT work with them. I stupidly ordered it without checking and cannot use it for the purpose that I originally bought it, but I can use it with a few others that I have so it wasn't a complete waste of time! :) It was my fault for not checking but I guess I needed it anyway! I got the package in mint condition and it works well for the right cassettes :) 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , April 28, 2011

    Very low quality

0 2/5 Alex (Toronto, ON Canada) - See all my reviews This review is from: Maxell Cassette VHS-C Adapter (290060) (Electronics) I bought this adapter for my vhs-c tapes. When I check it I found that the adapter parts don't fit properly. I tried it just a few minuts I found that tape in adapter goes by diagonal. So in the play mode it damages one tape edge in the rewind mode it damages the other edge. I retuned it to store and bought the PV-P1 adapter from Panasonic. It worked fine. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , November 8, 2005

0 5/5 mcQker - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: AVerMedia C039 DVD EZMaker 7 - convert VHS/8mm/Hi8 to DVD with ease (Electronics) We needed to transfer all our old VHS home videos to digital format. We looked into companies that do it for you, but it was $30 or more PER TAPE! We decided to try out this product first, and it's worked beautifully! Definitely worth the money - it saved us so much in the long run to be able to convert our videos ourselves. The only caution I would give is to be sure you have enough room on your computer hard drive (or an external drive) to store the large raw files that it produces before you edit them. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , September 6, 2012

Must know what you are doing

The included software loaded slowly, but works OK. A little slow, but I guess that's to impel one to buy the upgraded software. To hook up to a VCR, you'll need a patch cord between the VCR and included cords. The cords in the box are female, and so are the jacks on the VCR, so you'll need three male patch cords (two audio, one video).I am a novice when it comes to converting VHS to DVD, so it would be nice if the free software came with a help file. I have had zero luck after two attempts of actually writing a DVD that can be read by my DVD player. The final step of writing to the DVD never completes, even after waiting 7 hours to write a 16-minute long video.Pros: easy (but slow) installation of software; low costCons: need patch cords; no help file in software; very slow writing of DVD.December 10 update: I was finally able to make a straight copy from VHS to DVD fairly reliably. Simple, fast, easy, GOOD!

I am about to go and write a BAD review for a similar item, (EasyCAP DC60) which I bought prior to ordering the AVerMedia C039. If this review spares one person from making the similar mistake, I'll be glad.Like lots of folks out there, I have old personal videos on VHS, VHS-C, and 8mm tape, and I'd like to convert them to digital to share and store. The cost of having that done is a bit off-putting, and you just have to leave off your old tapes (or mail them) with someone and hope they do a good job of it. Having captured video in the past from magnetic media via (now antiquated) capture cards, I took a peek online and found that since then, the hardware has come a long way! Now you can also EASILY capture the sound along with the video (used to be more to that), and it's all in a convenient USB device that's all external.I thought I could save a lot of $ by trying to convert my own videos, with less than a $20 investment, and I assumed I could lick the... 5/5 DiannaCam "DiannaCam" (Neptune) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) (Electronics) After searching the net for a video capture device for my Windows 7 system, I found only 2 choices that claimed to actually work on windows 7. One was a fire-wire device for $200 and the other was the EZcap device. Since I only occasionally convert video, I went for the much cheaper solution. The product works but there is a problem with the sound USB driver included in the package. It did not work!. Found this on You Tube [...]. This shows how to install sound drivers and has link to working driver. Only other problem I saw while digitizing my videos is the sound would drop out momentarily while recording. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , September 1, 2010

This little peanut shaped EZcap and the software that comes with it does the job of products costing hundreds more. It does everything it is advertised to do with a very small learning curve. It comes with a downloadable manual that explains and illustrates exactly how to do everything. I am in the process of downloading years of family video tapes from my VCR to my computer, editing them and making professional looking DVD's with all kinds of neat titles and special effedcts. I have used it on both Vista and Windows 7 computers. A little driver tweak was necessary to get it to work with Windows 7. Shipping took only a couple days and the supplier e-mailed me after I received it to see if I had any questions. At nearly 70 years of age, this little item may be the best value I have ever received for the money spent. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , September 25, 2010

The older version still has a few problems but at least if you play with it a bit you can get satisfactory results on your PC and great results on your Kindle. When I download the new cloud player for pc it looks like it's working but it does not hold your collection after you shut off your pc and then will NOT allow you to reload your collection. I have started over many times and it only gets worse. Probably works great with 2000 songs, but I need it to work with 60000 songs like the old version does if you've paid the premium. The Clip+ does everything it needs to, and nothing it doesn't.

I owned the first generation clip, and the new 8gb clip+ retains everything that was great about the first while adding all around refinements.Pros:- Overall build quality has improved, but especially with the clip mechanism.- Files on MicroSD integrate seemlessly with the on board memory.- The volume and power buttons have more ergonomic placement on the device.- Sound quality remains great.- Audiobook files can be sped up slightly to save some "reading" time.- The interface is a little smoother and nicer to move through.- The square trackpad makes it easier to navigate without looking at the player. (good for runners)Cons:- No cap on the MicroSD slot, so that could potentially get dirty. If you don't need gimmicks such as touch screens and web browsers, then this player is quite possibly the best on the market for value, size, and quality. The Clip+ is definitely worth the few extra bucks over what... 4/5 S. Rysdyk (Michigan) - See all my reviews, September 18, 2009

Great upgrade to an already great budget player

0 5/5 Amazon Customer (Somerville, MA USA) - See all my reviews This review is from: SanDisk Sansa Clip+ 4 GB MP3 Player (Black) (Electronics) If all you are looking for is a great sounding, small, cheap mp3 player with a display and expandability options, then the clip + is your best choice. This is very similar to the old clip with the following major differences:- two minor button placement changes (improvement)- UI is a bit smoother (menus scroll now)- volume normalizing/gain- micro-SD slot for up to 16 added gigs (which is huge)- a little thicker, probably due to SD support- clip is no longer removable (depending on your preference, this is a good or bad thing-guess you could just rip it off and file it down if you wanted to)As always, it sounds great and blows away the iPod Shuffle in terms of value. So light and small--great for the gym. If you need your mp3 player to play games, surf the internet or serve double purpose as a grocery list, then this isn't for you, but if you're on a budget or just need something that plays music and does so well, this is the one. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , September 9, 2009

Really nice technical improvements, but didn't need to "fix" the outside of it.

So recently, because I love my Sansa Clip so much for exercising, and I thought I could use one more, I picked one of these up at Bestbuy. I have used it for about a week so I can't say anything about the longetivity of the new Clip Plus, but I can tell you about everything else. First I will give you the cons since there is only one and that is also only about preference. I personally LOVED the sleek look of the original sansa clip, but that has been replaced with a sort of glittery finish on the front. That is about it and to add to this, everything else from the outside such as the plastic used has been revamped to feel better in your hands and is just overall better quality. Now on to the most important part, the features. The main thing that sets this apart from the original clip is the addition of a microSD card slot. This can take up to a 32gb microSD card, so if you were to pair one with this, you could potentially get a 36(!)gb memory for this puny little item. That is the... 5/5 Pramod Agrawal - See all my reviews, September 19, 2009

An incredible final season for an incredible show.

I am going to write two reviews. One will be spoiler-free. The other will delve into the final season of this amazing series.Spoiler-free:How do I sum up a show that has influenced me so greatly without giving anything away about the finale, or the episodes that lead up to it? I think the answer lies in House as a character. I have to assume if you are reading the review for the final season of a show that has had eight, that you are at least somewhat familiar with it. I am going to assume that because there is no way to talk about the character as a whole without going over the past seasons. I will not spoil eight at all, but I will talk about seven in this review, and how it ties into eight beautifully. So, here we go. House is as damaged as a character comes. He has tried to find love, with Stacy in season two, and Cuddy in season seven. Some can argue there was even something between he and Cameron in the first season. House is capable of love... 5/5 Nathan A. Olson "Nate Allen" (austin, mn) - See all my reviews, May 22, 2012

A memorable exit for House & company

The long-running medical drama's final season picks up with House facing the consequences of Season 7's destructive act against his ex-girlfriend Dr. Lisa Cuddy -- he's in prison, where we learn he's been the better part of the last year.Although House is no longer a doctor, his basic nature means he's unable to stay away from puzzles, especially when they concern medicine -- meaning, House is a frequent visitor to the prison clinic. In the season premiere, "Twenty Vicodin," Dr. Jessica Adams (Odette Annable) is a bit wary at times, but despite the reasons for House's being there, Adams quickly deduces that this man is a medical genius from whom there's lots to learn. After much wangling on the part of House's former team member Dr. Eric Foreman (Omar Epps) - who is now the Dean of Medicine, taking over for Cuddy - House is able to work at the hospital again. The only problem is, he no longer has a team - during the past year, everyone scattered to other parts... 4/5 Joanna Mechlinski (CT, USA) - See all my reviews, June 15, 2012

A great player, but aspect ratios are messed up on mp4 material

The design of this player is really good. However, when used on the Kindle Fire to play my own mp4 files of films and shows there is a major problem. The problem is that mp4-encoded films that are in widescreen format are force-fitted to the Fire's screen in a way that messes up the displayed aspect ratio. All the films that I have tried to play were rendered with an aspect ratio that was about 16% too "tall", causing everything to look stretched vertically. For instance, a film with a true aspect ratio (correctly rendered from the same mp4 file as 2.385:1 on my PC and on an iPad) was rendered on the Fire as 2.068:1. Another film that had a true aspect ratio of 2.237:1 was rendered as 1.987:1. I find this "squeezing" of the image to be so annoying that I have given up trying to watch films on the Fire using my own mp4 files. (Amazon-coded films, bought from Amazon, do not suffer from this problem.)I suspect that the root cause lies within Amazon's code, not in this... 4/5 M. P. Fun For The Family

This game combines the best of Pictionery and the old game of Telephone. You pick a card that has various items listed on the card, i.e. dog, vacuum cleaner, ski slope etc. Each item is numbered, and everyone is given the item number they will have to draw on the first page of Telestration. The Telestration booklet is made up of 8 pages of a material that is easily erasable using the provided marker and cloth eraser. After doing your drawing you pass the booklet to the person to your right. On the page following your drawing, they have to write down what you have drawn; then they pass the book to the right and that person has to draw what you have written down. When the booklets have made the rounds of everyone in the game it's time to reveal the sequence of words and drawings.Laughter, guffaws, surprise, and enjoyment result from the reveal. We've had adults and children as young as 10 years old play in a round, and young and old enjoyed it equally. It's a family game... 5/5 Leon P. Great fun for 6, 7 or 8 people only

QUICK SUMMARY: This game is a lot of good, clean fun and really delivers a lot of laughs. But it'll only be really fun for 6, 7 or 8 people. We played this game last night during our New Year's Eve party. We had a houseful of people, and couldn't break this game out until late in the evening, shortly before midnight, when the crowd thinned to just those families who were going to ring in the new year with us. That's an important point, because this game only works well with 6, 7 or 8 people, I think. You can play with fewer, but the results won't be as fun because the chances for the gameplay to go awry are fewer (going awry = funny outcomes). You can't play with more than 8, as that's the maximum number that the game is equipped to play. What I LIKED:- It leads to unpredictable, sometimes very hilarious outcomes, as people try to guess one another's sketches.- It kept everyone's interest level up who were playing. In fact, we had... 5/5 William W. Davis "famousdavis" - See all my reviews, January 1, 2010

You're better off doing it yourself!

We've been playing our own version of this game for some time now, calling it "Telephone Pictionary". The game itself is a fun family or party game but you don't have to purchase this USAopoly version. The key sentence in the above game description is, "Gameplay requires little more than the included erasable markers and sketch books." Truly, all you need to have a blast playing this game are index cards and pencils, which you can get separately. The game is addictive, so having extra drawing pads or index cards on hand will be helpful even if you choose to buy the boxed game. I am including rather detailed instructions for play so that anyone who wants to will be able to play without having to pay $20 just for instructions. If you just want a summary review - skip to the end!First, how to play our version of the game and then how this boxed version differs from our do-it-yourself one. We play it like this - all players get a stack of index cards, 1 per player... 5/5 booklover - See all my reviews = Fun:, December 12, 2010
