Excerpt: A digital video recorder (DVR) or personal video recorder (PVR) is a consumer electronics device or application software that records video in a digital format to a disk drive, USB flash drive, SD memory card or other local or networked mass storage device. The term includes set-top boxes (STB) with direct to disk recording facility, portable media players (PMP) with recording, recorders (PMR as camcorders that record onto Secure Digital memory cards and software for personal computers which enables video capture and playback to and from a hard disk. A television set with built-in digital video-recording facilities was introduced by LG in 2007, followed by other manufacturers. DVR adoption has rapidly accelerated in recent years: in January 2006, ACNielsen recorded 1.2% of US households having a DVR but by February 2011, this number had grown to 42.2% of viewers in the United States. The Samsung F90: A Fine General-Purpose Home Video Camcorder

I am very pleased with my new .I did not want a camcorder capable of producing the next STAR WARS movie. I just wanted an ordinary easy-to-use camcorder strictly for home video. After a great deal of investigation, I chose this one - and I'm glad I did. It's inexpensive, very easy to use, and does exactly what I want from a camcorder.I have filmed scenes from our latest vacation including scenes of the convention we attended as well as some museums we visited and I have taken videos of our granddaughter (who never seems to sit still!).All of my videos so far have come out perfectly, even those taken under low-light. In fact, I took some video in a restaurant (which featured some entertainment) and, even though the lighting... 5/5 Lawrence H. Bulk "Lawrence H. Bulk" - See all my reviews, June 16, 2014

0 5/5 Tall Timbers "wbajm" (Fairbanks Alaska) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Samsung F90 Black Camcorder with 2.7" LCD Screen and HD Video Recording (Electronics) I just finished filming three soccer games with this camera. I installed a 32 GB card in the camera which will provide for about 500 minutes of HD recording. The battery itself was less than half used after each soccer game. The duration of recording for each game was approximately 80 minutes. After the file size reaches approximately 1.29 GB, the video camera closes out the file and starts a new segment. The camera is very easy to use, and did well when the sun was at my back, in my eyes, and it did even better at night when the field was lit up by lights. If you want an inexpensive video camera that gives high quality video, you should like this one. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , January 14, 2014

    There's Good and Bad

The product description on this item doesn't really tell you all about it. There's a wealth of information that the company could make available which they haven't done. So I will do that instead. My biggest pet peeve with this camera is that it picks up every tiny little noise out there. It seems to pick up the noise atoms make when they fly around. Any video intended for professional use will need to be post-processed to eliminate this noise. Turning it around is enough to produce a series of clicks, which can make the video feel amateurish. The camcorder itself is capable of recording 1080p videos, though it's not recommended that you do so. Those videos are so high in quality that they slow down many computers- store bought computers with a lot of bloatware on them are particularly at risk. The flip screen contains an easy-to-use menu where you can change the settings of your camcorder to make it record 720p or 480p, as you prefer. As is usually... 4/5 Winter Trabex "silentwindslash" (Mechanicsburg, PA USA) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Lacks memory card

0 2/5 Bboese (Frisco, TX United States) - See all my reviews This review is from: Vivitar Digital Camera with 1.8 inch Display (DVR426) (Electronics) I wasn't very impressed with this, but it was a gift for my 9 yr old and it worked for the price. It wasn't expensive and you could tell right away since it was made of plastic and was very light. Unfortunately, it sucked the batteries dead within a day (yes...1 day) and it didn't come with a memory card...which you really needed to do anything with it. This was a problem considering I ended up losing 6 months of photos when my husband gave my daughter my memory card to run it without my knowledge. :(If you are purchasing for a child, it's worthwhile since it's not expensive so you don't have to worry about them breaking something that cost an arm and a leg. Although, make sure you have a memory card available to use right from the get go. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , November 15, 2012

Great for recording video game consoles

To start off, I'm writing this review solely from the perspective of someone using this to record footage from video game consoles (an Xbox 360, in my case), because that's why I bought it and that's all I've used it for so far.Upon opening the box, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that there was a component cable included, a nice bonus. The first thing you'll notice is how light the device itself is. The all-plastic body and the lack of weight contribute to give it a slight cheap feeling, but this is not reflective of the overall quality of the device, as I'm about to explain. The HD PVR has pass-through outputs, which means you can plug your console into the PVR and then the PVR into your TV (with the included component cable), eliminating the need to split the signal. I was a little bit worried about any input lag caused by the pass-through, but I was thankful to discover that there is absolutely none. The one downside of this, if any, is that the PVR... 4/5 Maureen Swan (Minnesota, USA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Hauppauge 1212 HD-PVR High Definition Personal Video Recorder (Personal Computers) To start off, I'm writing this review solely from the perspective of someone using this to record footage from video game consoles (an Xbox 360, in my case), because that's why I bought it and that's all I've used it for so far.Upon opening the box, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that there was a component cable included, a nice bonus. Not for the faint of heart

Here's the summary: - Not a DVR. This is a pass-thru from audio/video source to PC. - Generates H.264 at Baseline Profile 1.0 only -- not the High Profile 4.1 that x264.exe-based programs generate. The Baseline H.264 quality is not as good as the High Profile quality using the same bit rate. - Generates default .M2TS files which are difficult to edit -- use the .TS file output instead for easier editing. - Arcsoft software is good for capturing and that's it. The software for creating a disk always seems to re-encode -- a process that takes my PC days or makes my PC hang. - After capture, I have to use third-party software to finish production. The product is not an easy out-of-the box solution. Hookup is easy, and the Arcsoft software installation is easy, capturing is easy, but it gets tricky after that. When you capture, you can set bitrates. I set my 720x480i broadcast to 4.1 MB/s thinking it... 3/5 K. Martin (Kenosha, WI) - See all my reviews, May 22, 2009

    Decent enough, but not reliable

I bought one of these to replace a non-"My DLink" NVR, in the hope that I could finally view my IP cameras over the internet. It did work, I can seen live and recorded video on the "my DLink" site from all the cameras hooked up to it, whether the cameras are "My DLink" or not. By the way, the previous NVR (a DNS-726-4) was also unreliable AND I could never figure out how to view its content over the internet.Major detractor: The product is not reliable. It must be rebooted three times a week, and it does not have a maintenance function to auto-restart. Sometimes when I reboot it via the web interface, it does not come back up on the network and I have to crawl under the desk to unplug it for a hard restart. If I forget to reboot it, sure enough it will be out of commission -- responding to pings, but not allowing log in, nor is it recording. A DVR for DLink Cameras that works!

Just received this and connected it to my router. Installation was a little difficult because the zip file I downloaded from dlink's website gave me a script error when I ran it, so I had to call tech support and they explained that unzipping the file using the Windows 8 unzipping tool caused the corruption, so they had me download 7-Zip and unzip it again, which worked. I have no idea what difference it makes, but just glad that it worked.Once the software was installed, getting the recorder connected to MyDlink.com and my 2 cameras was fairly straightforward. I've had it set up and recording video for the last 24 hours and it seems to use about 96GB of storage space a day, so I'll get about 5 days out of my 500GB drive.I could reduce the image quality or change the frame rate to get a longer recording time if I wanted, so I can live with it since most of what it records isn't useful and I can just overwrite the old data if I want.
