Excerpt: A digital video recorder (DVR) or personal video recorder (PVR) is a consumer electronics device or application software that records video in a digital format to a disk drive, USB flash drive, SD memory card or other local or networked mass storage device. The term includes set-top boxes (STB) with direct to disk recording facility, portable media players (PMP) with recording, recorders (PMR as camcorders that record onto Secure Digital memory cards and software for personal computers which enables video capture and playback to and from a hard disk. A television set with built-in digital video-recording facilities was introduced by LG in 2007, followed by other manufacturers. The Samsung F90: A Fine General-Purpose Home Video Camcorder

I am very pleased with my new .I did not want a camcorder capable of producing the next STAR WARS movie. I just wanted an ordinary easy-to-use camcorder strictly for home video. After a great deal of investigation, I chose this one - and I'm glad I did. It's inexpensive, very easy to use, and does exactly what I want from a camcorder.I have filmed scenes from our latest vacation including scenes of the convention we attended as well as some museums we visited and I have taken videos of our granddaughter (who never seems to sit still!).All of my videos so far have come out perfectly, even those taken under low-light. In fact, I took some video in a restaurant (which featured some entertainment) and, even though the lighting... 5/5 Lawrence H. Bulk "Lawrence H. Bulk" - See all my reviews, June 16, 2014

0 5/5 Tall Timbers "wbajm" (Fairbanks Alaska) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Samsung F90 Black Camcorder with 2.7" LCD Screen and HD Video Recording (Electronics) I just finished filming three soccer games with this camera. I installed a 32 GB card in the camera which will provide for about 500 minutes of HD recording. The battery itself was less than half used after each soccer game. The duration of recording for each game was approximately 80 minutes. After the file size reaches approximately 1.29 GB, the video camera closes out the file and starts a new segment. The camera is very easy to use, and did well when the sun was at my back, in my eyes, and it did even better at night when the field was lit up by lights. If you want an inexpensive video camera that gives high quality video, you should like this one. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , January 14, 2014

This review is from: Samsung F90 Black Camcorder with 2.7" LCD Screen and HD Video Recording (Electronics) This is a good camcorder for the price. i needed it to do do short youtube videos. The only probably is you will not be able to use at night or after sunset. There is no flash or backlight! This is a con for this would have gotten 5 stars. The HD video recording is awesome! There does'nt seem to be a way to even attach a flash to this camera. This means you need very great lighting when recording and only in sunlight or good inside lighting. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , April 4, 2014

    Decent enough, but not reliable

I bought one of these to replace a non-"My DLink" NVR, in the hope that I could finally view my IP cameras over the internet. It did work, I can seen live and recorded video on the "my DLink" site from all the cameras hooked up to it, whether the cameras are "My DLink" or not. By the way, the previous NVR (a DNS-726-4) was also unreliable AND I could never figure out how to view its content over the internet.Major detractor: The product is not reliable. It must be rebooted three times a week, and it does not have a maintenance function to auto-restart. Sometimes when I reboot it via the web interface, it does not come back up on the network and I have to crawl under the desk to unplug it for a hard restart. If I forget to reboot it, sure enough it will be out of commission -- responding to pings, but not allowing log in, nor is it recording. An OK product with some issues that could easily be addressed via firmware updates...

The documentation and instructions available via the configuration interface is lacking. You really have to be familiar with D-Link cameras and be patient enough to fiddle with the configuration screens to get this to work properly.Unlike a previous reviewer, I WAS able to get the DNR to record only on motion. The trick was that Motion Detection had to be turned on in each of the camera's configuration interfaces. Once this was activated on the camera side and the Event setup on the DNR was configured to record on motion, the unit started doing just that.I am currently UNABLE to get the email alerts to work even though my SMTP info checks out fine with the test message. It just doesn't send an email. I've alerted support and hopefully this issue will be resolved in the first round of firmware updates.A feature that I was expecting but did NOT find, was the ability to send alerts/record video when motion is detected ACCORDING TO A SCHEDULE. I thought it can't be all that good for several reasons

0 4/5 Marty F - See all my reviews This review is from: Vivitar DVR880HD-LICHD Digital Video Recorder Video Camera with 2-Inch LCD Screen (Black) (Electronics) After purchasing this camcorder, I thought it can't be all that good for several reasons, mainly the price and the manufacturer. Well, after putting it through it's paces, I was rather surprised. First, it actually records a nice quality video, and the sound is average with all other camcorders in this range. Now, outdoor videos will of course be better than indoors, due to better lighting, however, the indoor videos wereactually not all that bad, either. With a normal daytime lit room, you should be fine. And remember, you can buy a sima video camera light, which attaches to the tripod mount on this camera, if you do want better indoor videos. The battery life is good, and it charges through aregular ac outlet. It also has a built in front led light to help also for indoor shooting. All in all, if this is the camcorder you may be considering from Vivitar, I would say you could do a lot worse. It is, in my opinion a good buy. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , August 25, 2014

0 2/5 Minzoku Bokumetsu (beyond the far reaches of your closet) - See all my reviews This review is from: Vivitar DVR-508 High Definition Digital Video Camcorder, Colors May Vary (Electronics) I got this on clearance for $15 (50% off), which undoubtedly speaks volumes right there. To make a long story short, it's good for taking really quick video like, "Hey guys, this is my new cat!" If you're looking for anything archival, look a little harder. Even in a well-lit room, it doesn't pick up light very well, and even with three brand new AAA batteries I only got about five seconds of video before it said it wanted new batteries. (To be fair, they're rechargeables, so I don't know if that's a factor since all I have are rechargeables.)But it's cheap, in EVERY sense of the word, so what do you want. If you want something that lasts, look for something with an optional POWER CABLE at the very least, or you'll be feeding the battery monster for not much return on your investment. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , June 3, 2012

    High hopes, but disappointed

I had high hopes for this unit since it is one of the few no-fee DVRs available that will record on an HDD in full HD resolution. Set up is easy and I found navigating through the screens straightforward and logical. The unit also receives both over the air and cable channels - - a real advantage for me since I am in a low-signal area and do not get good reception with an antenna. I subscribe to basic cable and I bought this unit to avoid the monthly fees for a cable company DVR. HD image quality is very good both as received and on playback from the HDD. Unfortunately, there are serious cons which lead to my low rating: (1) inadequate input and output ports - - would be nice to have both component in and out, (2) slow and erratic response to commands, (3) small, flimsy remote with small buttons, (4) narrow remote reception angle, (5) no front panel display with clock and function status. I could have lived with these limitations had the unit been reliable, but it stopped playing back... 1/5 videowatcher - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Easy Setup

I have been looking for a true high definition recorder that will work on my cable system. I do not have a cable converter, but this unit scanned and found all channels, analog and digital, that are unscrambled on my cable system (Suddenlink). While I don't understand why it scans for analog channels since it doesn't record them, I suppose you can use it as a cable converter to watch them anyway. The menu system is easy to understand and navigate.I would have preferred having the capability to edit channel ID's, since it didn't pick up all of them. Perhaps it will eventually since I have only had the unit for 24 hours. You can edit the channel lineup by adding or deleting them as you desire. There is no EPG (electronic program guide) so to set up a time recording is just like the old VCR days. You enter a date, start time, stop time and channel. You can also program it to repeat weekly, etc.All in all, I am impressed with the playback picture quality,... 5/5 Bill Bruce (Bossier City, LA USA) - See all my reviews, January 16, 2014

Will you like this box? It may depend on your video source, but I got a bad unit that powers off when I play a recording

The Philips HDR5750 Digital Video Recorder (DVR) has good potential. But the one I received is defective and is going back to Amazon. With the 1 Terrabyte (TB) hard drive enclosed in this unit, it appears that you can record over 100 hours of programs. There is also the capability to hook up an external USB drive with a capacity of 32 GB to 4 TB to record even more programs. This DVR is designed to accept input from an antenna, a cable box, or a satellite receiver. Output options include coax, RCA jacks, and one HDMI output jack. (See the product image that I uploaded, which is to the right of the first user review.) The DVR will also stream videos from Netflix, VuDu, Youtube, and other sources over Wi-Fi or a wired network connection. However streaming video cannot be recorded. The DVR has only one tuner, which means that when a channel is being recorded you can't watch another channel. However, you can watch a streaming video source like Netflix while a channel is being... 2/5 B. Wilson (Texas) - See all my reviews, April 6, 2014
