    The best pocket-sized Canon yet

BOTTOM LINE:With each generation, Canon makes the ELPH series easier to use and still get great results. Like it's predecessors, this one fits easily into your pocket (or the case I recommend toward the end of this review). That point alone may make this the best camera you own; having a $5k DSLR doesn't do you much good if you left it home because it wasn't worth the effort to lug it along. However, unlike many other small cameras, this one does not sacrifice either features or quality. Well, it does give up on any reasonable manual control, things like setting shutter speed, lens aperture, ISO. What access you do have to that level of control is buried deep inside menus. It took Canon a while to realize that for most of us, if we wanted to fool with that kind of thing on a regular basis, we would be using a different camera. This camera is designed to leverage convenience over extreme control or nth degree quality.DETAILS:It is a... 5/5 Bob Tobias "Robert Tobias" (Arlington, VA USA) - See all my reviews, March 25, 2011

Canon ELPH 100 HS -- U R going to luv it

Just received my Canon ELPH 100 HS {orange} and I absolutely love it. The camera boots up almost instantly. Installed a 16GB SDHC class 10 card and now have 5000+ 12MB photo capacity or 60 minutes for HD video. The image stabilization at max digital zoom 4X4/16x works great! The camera easily fits in my pocket and is very light @ ~5 ounces. The Canon's Digic 4 processor & CMOS sensor make this camera truly point and shoot. By default it automatically selects the light level, shaking, target focus, shutter speed, flash/noflash and ISO to pick the optimal scene type. Perfect pictures virtually every time when button is correctly pressed 1/2 way (1) before fully in (2) for photo shot. But be sure to get a class 10 card for the best video. The only 2 minor problems I believe are:1) It comes with a 700 mAh 3.7 Volt battery instead of the 1400 mAh 3.7 OEM version which doubles it run-time for 230 photos to almost 500 pictures per charge. This is easily fixed when... 5/5 george bancks (ruston, la USA) - See all my reviews, March 18, 2011

Good but no Video zoom - Get the 300 HS

0 4/5 Tuan Thach - See all my reviews This review is from: Canon PowerShot ELPH 100 HS 12.1 MP CMOS Digital Camera with 4X Optical Zoom (Grey) (Camera) The product description for the Canon 100 HS and the 300 HS are very similar and it appears to be mostly just the wide angle and zoom. I compared the two cameras in the store and preferred the look and feel of the grey 100 HS. Only when I was testing the camera did I realize that the 100 HS does not allow you to zoom while shooting video. Another missing feature of the 100 HS is the smart auto scene detection is not active when shooting video. If you don't care about video, save $50 on the 100 HS otherwise get the 300 HS. I exchanged mine and love the 300 HS. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , April 5, 2011

decent camera but surprisingly less intuitive than previous model

This is my third Canon Powershot Elph, so obviously, I'm a fan of this model. Between my 1st & 2nd (3 years), i saw a HUGE improvement in sharpness (MP)& zoom, also it was SO intuitive (in particular automatically "brightening" a dim shot (when i didn't want to use flash) & for close-up/macro shots) that I was able to rely on auto setting for all my picture taking needs. When i lost the 2nd camera on vacation, I tried to see the glass as half full & anticipated a even SMARTER, more intuitive camera. This was listed as the newest model of the one I had lost (with better MP & zoom), but unfortunately, I have found that it's actually LESS intuitive - the auto focus gets confused easily (I would say 15-20% of simple/still pictures come out blurry) & the flash doesn't go off about 20% of the time I think it should, sure these percentages are relatively low but it makes me worry about missed photo opportunities in fleeting moments. Also, I was annoyed to find that this camera doesn't... 3/5 Catherine - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Excellent leather case for your SD500, SD550 or other similar cameras!

This case is perfect for my SD550 or any similar sized camera. My camera fits snug and it's the least bulky case I've come across. One drawback however: Since it is optimized to be as slim as possible there is NO room for an additional memory card or battery. This poses no problem for me as I only use this case to carry the camera in my pocket. All accessories are in my large camera bag. Both the back and the front of this small case are designed with a hard stiff front and back designed to protect the LCD monitor. There are NO zippers to scratch the polished metal or LCD of your camera. The case opens with a velcro tab which holds the camera very securely. One other case I would consider is the Lowepro D-Pod 10 which is slightly more bulky but does provide a bit more protection. I have both and use both depending on the amount of protection desired. My dad owns only the PSC-55 as it provides plenty of protection for him. This is a very nice... 5/5 JanSobieski (United States of America) - See all my reviews This review is from: Canon PSC-55 Deluxe Leather Compact Case for SD430, SD500, SD550, SD600, SD630, SD700IS, SD800IS, SD850 IS, SD900,SD950IS & SD870IS 300 HS , 100 HS Canon Digital Cameras models (Camera) This case is perfect for my SD550 or any similar sized camera. A perfect fit

0 5/5 gadgetgirl (Atlanta, GA United States) - See all my reviews This review is from: Canon PSC-55 Deluxe Leather Compact Case for SD430, SD500, SD550, SD600, SD630, SD700IS, SD800IS, SD850 IS, SD900,SD950IS & SD870IS 300 HS , 100 HS Canon Digital Cameras models (Camera) This case is a perfect fit for my Canon SD700 IS. It doesn't have pockets or room for extra batteries and charger, but it slips right into my pocket or purse. The leather is soft and smooth, fit and finish is very good, and the hard front and back of the case provide a little extra protection for the camera. It does have a belt loop on the back that I will probably never use. Included in the package is a matching black leather wrist strap for the camera. If you want something small and sleek to protect the camera, not to carry a ton of accessories around in, I highly recommend the PSC-55. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , May 8, 2006

    Nice case

0 5/5 Pon (LA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Canon PSC-55 Deluxe Leather Compact Case for SD430, SD500, SD550, SD600, SD630, SD700IS, SD800IS, SD850 IS, SD900,SD950IS & SD870IS 300 HS , 100 HS Canon Digital Cameras models (Camera) This is a nice and compact leather case and is a good bit less bulky than some of the "universal" cases. It is an especially good fit for the SD800 IS we have and the leather is a nice texture for slipping in your pocket still. I like the snap closure better than the velcro which can be fairly noisy in situations that need to be quiet. It also has a little magnetic property that helps latch it. The only caution I have to exercise is that the snap on the cover will tap the camera if you don't hold it going either in or out of the case. I don't know that it would hurt anything but I try to prevent that any way, which is easy by simply holding your hand a little differently. But this is my case of choice by a long shot. It has that nice look and feel associated with fine products of this kind. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , January 23, 2007
