Canon ELPH 100 HS -- U R going to luv it

Just received my Canon ELPH 100 HS {orange} and I absolutely love it. The camera boots up almost instantly. Installed a 16GB SDHC class 10 card and now have 5000+ 12MB photo capacity or 60 minutes for HD video. The image stabilization at max digital zoom 4X4/16x works great! The camera easily fits in my pocket and is very light @ ~5 ounces. The Canon's Digic 4 processor & CMOS sensor make this camera truly point and shoot. By default it automatically selects the light level, shaking, target focus, shutter speed, flash/noflash and ISO to pick the optimal scene type. Perfect pictures virtually every time when button is correctly pressed 1/2 way (1) before fully in (2) for photo shot. But be sure to get a class 10 card for the best video. The only 2 minor problems I believe are:1) It comes with a 700 mAh 3.7 Volt battery instead of the 1400 mAh 3.7 OEM version which doubles it run-time for 230 photos to almost 500 pictures per charge. This is easily fixed when... 5/5 george bancks (ruston, la USA) - See all my reviews, March 18, 2011

Very happy with the Canon ELPH 100 HS (Grey)!

The Canon ELPH 100 HS is beautiful, and the Smart Auto feature takes great, no-stress photos for the user who has little or no experience with camera equipment. Before buying the Canon ELPH 100, I read reviews and did a lot of research online to find a point-and-shoot camera that I would enjoy within the under-$200 price range. There are a lot of good products from which to choose.I next went to Best Buy, Office Depot, and Sears to hold different point-and-shoot cameras made by the major producers: Canon, Nikon, Sony, Olympus, etc. For me, these visits to different retailers is an important part of the process of buying a point-and-shoot digital camera for the first time.Another important step is to learn whether or not the camera's software is compatible with your desktop computer. Because my computer is old (2006), I had to research compatibility with the different cameras that I liked. You can find the information at the product... 5/5 AuntB - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Great pocket camera

I pre ordered this camera (sight unseen) before it even came out, and it did not disappoint. It is tiny, even for an Elph, and the photos are far better than any previous Elph I've owned. (I've owned four now.) The screen is nice and big, although it got a scratch within 1 week... something that had never happened to any of my previous Elphs over a period of 10 years. I guess that's what happens when the glass is so huge.My biggest complaint is about the ridiculously tiny controls. I have slender fingers and can use most small electronics without a problem. This is VERY HARD to use because the buttons are EXTREMELY small. The D-pad is barely usable. Fortunately, the flip side is that the automated scene selection feature has been improved so much that you almost never have to use the D-pad or other controls. Basically, I just shoot in auto mode all the time and all the photos come out fine. Once in a while, I'll switch to the program mode so I can shoot the kids... 4/5 JKim (Washington, DC) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Great camera, but some cons.

I bought this camera at the end of August. With the camera I also bought a 128MB compact flash card, an extra battery, and a carrying case. I also recently bought Viking's IntelliFlash Memory Reader. The camera: Amazing size; it is literally about the size of a deck and a half of cards. It fits into my pants pocket or my chest pocket without a problem. Great pictures, especially in daylight. I went for a walk with my dog today and took a picture in the midday sunlight and I got back and it was fabulous. But pictures with the flash aren't that great, unfortunately. The foreground usually gets too bright and the backround not light enough. The 2X optical zoom is great but the 2X digital zoom doesn't do much I've found. The resolution is good enough so that you can take a picture using optical zoom and then crop the part you want and it will still be a good sized picture. The software that comes with camera is adequate. It lets you view the... 5/5 A. Bowman (Massachusetts) - See all my reviews, January 3, 2002

Great camera! Perfect for serious but not professional user

I bought this camera after looking around for a digital for quite sometime. I looked at so many cameras out there, but I decided on a few things I was looking for. First, I wanted at least 2 megapixels for high quality photos. And this camera delivers! I love the picture quality. Second, I wanted something from a brand known to be high quality. I have been happy with everything I have ever bought from Canon and I hear relatively few complaints about their products. Third, I wanted something small so it's easy to take around. This camera is perfect for the pocket! The camera has been a joy to use. I found all the functions easy to find and it only took a few hours of playing around with it to get everything down. The only thing I get a little frustrated with is how still you need to be when taking pictures in low light. The camera can take great pics in low light, but you must keep the camera very still. I recommend taking several shots to make sure you get a good one.The... 5/5 Michael C. Reynolds (Van Buren, AR United States) - See all my reviews, January 14, 2001

    A wonderful little camera

I researched digital cameras for months before finally buying this one. I'm thrilled with it.It's tiny. Amazingly tiny. It fits in any pocket, fits in my purse without me even realizing it's there, fits in my camcorder bag WITH the camcorder!I'm very pleased with the quality of pictures. Indoor photos can sometimes appear a little muddy, but that's correctable with photo software.I purchased the 128mb flash card--at $200, quite a percentage of camera cost. But it holds over 200 photos, and it's great to be able to go on vacation and not worry about whether there's enough room to store all the photos.I also purchased a second battery, and am glad I did.As others have noted, the camera does get remarkably hot with extended use. The only other little annoyances are that it takes time to refresh from one shot to the next, and I don't like having to switch mode from viewing pictures already taken and taking a new one. That is particularly aggrevating when... 5/5 0, January 1, 2001

Wonderful compact camera with hd video

I'm a DSLR photographer who shoots professionally and has managed a camera store in the past. I wanted something I can take with me everywhere but still produces good quality shots. I also wanted a camera that could shoot good looking videos. I researched several models and after much deliberation decided on the Canon 300 HS. I'm very happy I did.Image Quality:I tested cameras and lenses all the time while managing the camera store so whenever I purchase a new camera or lens I always test it. The Canon 300 HS doesn't produce the quality of images my Nikon D7000 does but I didn't expect it to. The edges get a little soft with the 300 HS when looking at the image at 100% whereas the D7000 images are almost tact sharp.Comparing the 300 HS to the Canon Powershot SD1000 from a few years ago, the 300 HS blows it out of the water. The SD1000 is a 7 MP camera. Shooting the same shots on a tripod with the same focal length on the lens the 300 HS uses its... 5/5 JJG - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Awesome Point and Shoot

This is a point and shoot class camera, if you understand that going in, you are going to be more than impressed with it. I'm going from an SD630 and hands down, this beats it. I even had an SX210IS and these images are on par with it, if not better. I had to return my SX210IS as it had issues with dust on the image sensor and I've been waiting for a new P&S class to come out. I bit the bullet on this, well, the black version and what can I say - I am happy!300HS vs 500HS:There is a 500HS version of the camera, which is approx $50 more. To this point, the only differences I can tell are the LCD on the back as well as aperture priority and shutter priority, while the 300hs does not. The touch screen on the 500hs can also be used to focus... 5/5 Keith Corbin - See all my reviews, March 14, 2011

    Another great Canon product!

I currently own a 5D Mark II and was looking to replace my Canon S80 which is now 6 yrs old. While I love the S80 and the quality pics it captured, the bulkiness of this point-and-shoot (P&S) became inconvenient. My wife was adamant she wanted a more compact P&S this time around. In addition to great pics, I was looking for a P&S with 1080p video capability so I wouldn't have to get a separate camcorder. Let me say that the 300 HS is a quality camera packed into a sleek body that I can easily slip into any pocket on the run. Most Canon cameras (I am a Canon loyalist) take great shots. But what most impresses me about this camera are its low-light capabilities. It obviously can not match the image quality of a DSLR, but for a P&S, I was impressed! Indoor night shots of my kids WITHOUT flash (incandescent lighting only) come out amazingly crisp with minimal noise. Autofocus is quite impressive as it tracks faces in the frame further enhancing ease of use. Menu... 5/5 sojo - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?)
